The
Hope and Anchor is situated in the
attractive village of Alnmouth, this
thriving village was once a grain port, but
during a severe storm in 1806, the main
harbour silted up which caused the River Aln
to break through the sand hills and change
its course.
Nowadays, Alnmouth is better
known for its large golf course overlooking a
long stretch of sandy beach and estuary and its
bustling village full of gift shops and tea
rooms.
Within
a few miles radius of the Hotel is
Alnwick Castle, recently made famous as the
location for the Harry Potter films, and the
newly opened ‘Alnwick
Garden’ with it's fascinating water
features.
Warkworth, Dunstanburgh and
Bamburgh castles are all a short drive away and
a little further lies Cradle of Christianity -
Holy Island and the wildlife sanctuaries of the
Farne Islands. Alnmouth has its own railway
station on the East Coast Mainline, giving quick
access to the busy shopping centres of Newcastle
upon Tyne and Edinburgh.
